Case Study: OUT Studier i utlandet
Background
Out is a Norwegian educational institution which supervises Norwegian students on studying abroad. Collaborating with universities all over the world, they are sending young Norwegian students abroad to gain foreign bachelor- or master degrees. As a new institution, OUT required a corporate identity which included a logo, colour schemes, graphic elements and typography.

Challenge
OUT required a strong symbolic identity to represent their services. As many of their university partners are established academic institutions, the OUT appearance needed to look professional and trustworthy. This had to balance with a fresh look which communicated the idea of going abroad for new experiences and expand cultural horizons.

Solution
We looked at the migrating bird as a strong representation of OUT. The groups of flying birds carried both associations of freedom, crossing cultural borders and the idea of moving temporarily to a place for alternative qualities.

The logo was based on the symbol of migrating birds. The concept was also applied to a graphic element which illustrated a group of birds. The supporting graphic element strengthens the OUT recognition when it is used as part of printed matter like magazine layouts, printed matter and other promotional material.

Font and colour schemes were developed for optimized brand recognition. While the fonts were based on Helvetica and Script type- the fresh but serious colour scheme was based on shades of blue and bright orange. A thorough corporate identity manual finally defined the identity, and outlined guidelines for consistent use of the various graphic elements.
