75 000 people have visited the exhibition «From King to Obama» since the opening this autumn. It is the highest number of visitors ever, according to the Nobel Peace Center. A&O has delivered the exhibition graphics.
Martin Luther King, Jr. was a central figure in the American Civil Rights Movement of the 1950s and 60s. The movement has been brought to life with photography, sound and movie extracts.
American typography and 50s blues was our main source of inspiration when developing the logo/vignett «From King to Obama». The glowing lines shaping the words "From" and "To" reflects on King and Obama's powerfull speaches. King literally draws the message with his moves and energy, the same way that he argued for- and dreamt about an equally justified America.
American typography was a natural choice for an exhibition about American dreams. ITC Franklin is based on the American classic, Franklin Gothic. The font is clean and functional for large display purposes at the same time as the narrow lettering utilises limited wall space.
For the out door facade, we developed 10 metre tall banners as wells as smaller versions for the main entrance. We designed posters, flyers, opening invitaitons and a 110-page catalogue. The graphic interior of the exhibition included typography and formatting of wall displays as well as illustration for stools and sound showers. Morten Haneseth from "Livets Små Gleder" was the exhibition scenographer.
"From King to Obama" has gained excellent publicity. The number of visitors have been ground breaking - on 10th October "The Open Day", 2.950 people visited the Nobel Peace Center.
The exhibition is open to 11th April 2010. Opening hours: Tue-Sun, 10 am-6 pm.
