Thanks to their originality and design excellence, our logoes for the Norwegian education institution "OUT", the Irish newspaper group "Spectator" and our own "A&O Design", we are among the winning entries of EULDA. The logo for OUT has also received the "Best of Nation" award for Norway.
EULDA is the high-profile award scheme for graphic designers that rewards the
finest logos designed in Europe. This year, nearly 1000 entries were submited from 36 countries. The results are published each year in the Eulda Annual, which is distributed worldwide.
The winning logos
The migrating birds which we developed for OUT, were a strong symbol on students who go abroad to gain foreign university degrees. The association with flight and freedom was also created to represent the concept of studying abroad.
We are delighted to have our own A&O logo among the EULDA winning entries. Designing our own logo was a challenging process, and the aim was to represent the joint partnership between Salil Awchat and Cathrine Olsen, and the collaboration between two countries. Complimenting both maximalist Indian and minimalist Norwegian taste, the typographic logo finally reflected what we wanted.
Redesigning the Spectator logo was a unique challenge for A&O. The old masthead had been part of the newspaper group since 1904, but the client required modernisation. We applied unusual and striking red and yellow gradients to the masthead. The effect gave it a fresh and modern feel at the same time as the old shape still reflected the history of the newspaper.
